Former Major League Baseball Pitcher and Cy Young Award Winner Vida Blue will be on hand meeting fans and signing autographs in the downtown City Park during the World Series Trophy Tour on Friday, Feb. 27, from 5-7 p.m.

The 2010, 2012 and 2014 Major League Baseball’s Commissioner’s Trophies, crafted by Tiffany & Co., will be on display to help celebrate the World Series Champions with devoted Giants fans in Junior Giants communities throughout northern and central California, Oregon and Nevada, and help raise funds and awareness for the Junior Giants program.

The viewing of the trophies is free to the public but a voluntary contribution of $2 per person is suggested to support the local Junior Giants program. This will be the third public trophy tour held in the past five years.

“We are incredibly excited to welcome the Giants World Champions trophies to Paso Robles said Paso Robles Police Activities League (PAL) Commissioner Tony Ruiz, “In 2014, the Paso Robles PAL served 200 children who live in the area. By coming out to view the trophies, our community members are also supporting our Junior Giants League and their support is much appreciated!”

Junior Giants is the flagship program of the Giants Community Fund, which serves more than 22,000 boys and girls in 87 underserved communities throughout northern and central California and southern Oregon. It is a free and non-competitive baseball program that has served as a model for MLB youth initiatives. Using baseball, the Junior Giants provides opportunities for youth to link with adult mentors and to learn about the program’s Four Bases of Character Development: Confidence, Integrity, Leadership and Teamwork. Locally, the Junior Giants program has been running in Paso Robles for the past 16 years and many of its participants would not normally have the opportunity or means to play baseball.

Volunteer coaches are needed for the upcoming eight-week Junior Giants season that begins on June 15th, 2015. To learn more about volunteer opportunities, please contact Paso Robles Police Department PAL Commissioner Det. Tony Ruiz at ruiz@prcity.com or (805) 227-7460.

Vida Rochelle Blue Jr., born July 28, 1949, is a former Major League Baseball left-handed pitcher. During a 17-year career, he pitched for the Oakland Athletics (1969–77), San Francisco Giants (1978–81; 1985–86), and Kansas City Royals (1982–83). He won the American League Cy Young Award and Most Valuable Player Award in 1971. He is a six-time All-Star, and is the first of only four pitchers in major league history to start the All-Star Game for both the American League (1971) and the National League (1978); Roger Clemens, Randy Johnson and Roy Halladay would later duplicate the feat. This is his second time meeting fans in Paso Robles for the trophy tour, and he’s happy to return.
