–Nonprofit organization Visit San Luis Obispo County has announced the hiring of a new director of marketing, Becky Singh.

With more than 15 years of strategic marketing and communications experience, Singh will be instrumental in serving the marketing and research initiatives set forth by the Tourism Marketing District. Her role will oversee all marketing operations for Visit San Luis Obispo County including strategic formation of promotional campaigns, media spends and county-wide tourism research efforts. She will additionally oversee all social media, communications and public relations messaging.

Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Singh began her career in marketing with the largest business-consulting firm in California, Armanino LLP. Taking a detour to the Northwest, she worked for global innovation consultancy, Ziba, in Portland before settling on the Central Coast in 2012, most recently working as the Marketing and Communications Director for the Foundation for the Performing Arts Center (FPAC) in San Luis Obispo.

“It is such a privilege to be a part of the Visit San Luis Obispo County team and the impact that they are having on tourism in our region,” said Singh. “Having first visited the County fifteen years ago, returning often over the years with the goal to make this place my home, I’ve long been an advocate for the activities and destinations we have to promote. Since coming on board, we have hit the ground running with our first-ever shoulder season campaign, targeting out-of-market visitors to our area and increasing length of stay.”

“Bringing Becky on board was a natural fit for our organization,” said Chuck Davison, president & CEO. “Her experience in marketing and communications will be vital to our marketing goals and initiatives. She also brings a great link to the arts community, having worked at the Foundation for the Performing Arts Center. This will play a great role in tying together the Culinary, Coastal and Cultural themes of our County.”

Singh will work closely with the Visit San Luis Obispo County Marketing Committee and marketing agency to strategically place advertising and media in feeder markets like Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area, the Central Valley, Phoenix and Las Vegas. She is also working on the request for proposal for two research campaigns including a consumer demographic and share of wallet study in addition to a feeder market awareness study. Both are expected to be completed late Spring 2016.

“Our marketing reach and ability to do research would not be possible without the passage of the Tourism Marketing District,” said Davison. “We are determined to increase promotion of the array of lodging properties we have in San Luis Obispo County, including hotels, motels, bed & breakfasts, vacation rentals and RV parks. These play an important role in positioning San Luis Obispo County as a premier travel destination.”

Singh and her family live in South County, where she also serves on the board of directors for the Lucia Mar Foundation for Innovation, and Pale Kai Outrigger Club in Avila Beach.
