–San Miguel will be hosting its 25th Annual Christmas Lights Parade & Crafts Faire on Saturday, Dec. 19. The afternoon will be filled with crafts and vendor booths, a children’s carnival and games, and a chili cook-off will give way to an evening of lights galore as locals and visitors alike line Mission Street for the parade.

“If you’d like to see some of the best offerings of our small-town community, come on out to San Miguel on Saturday and join in on the fun,” said Miki Sanders, parade committee secretary and president of the San Miguel Chamber of Commerce.

The fun kicks off at 2 p.m. on Mission Street in San Miguel with a crafts and vendors faire; find local handmade goods and gifts for everyone on that Christmas list. Mission Street will be closed from about 1 p.m. on; look for parking along surrounding streets.

At 4:30, the chili cook-off will take place in front of San Miguel Coffee Station, located at 1199 Mission St., with participants offering samples of their favorite recipe in the hopes of garnering the most votes to earn the first-place award.

At 6 p.m., the Christmas Lights Parade will make its way down Mission Street starting at 14th St. and moving south towards Father Reginald Park (just north of Mission San Miguel) before making the loop back in the opposite direction. Be sure to bring a blanket or two, dress warm, and stake out a good spot to take in the sights.

“It’s a lot of fun,” said Sanders, “and the route takes participants one way and then back the opposite direction, so it’s like watching the parade twice!”

Prizes will be awarded throughout the afternoon and evening including Best Booth, Best Decorated Business, Best Float, Best Equestrians, and Best Marching Group. Dave Hovde of KSBY will be the main announcer for the parade, with guest speakers including former Lillian Larsen Teacher of the Year Eileen Rogers taking their turn at the microphone as well. Sponsored by the chamber, with help from the San Miguel Firefighters Association volunteers, the Native Sons and Daughters of the Golden West, and more.

“There’s really something for everyone to enjoy,” said Sanders. “We have crafts and gift items for sale, games for the kids, and food and drinks available for purchase. The parade has everything from a color guard, uni-cyclists, cars, and motorcycles to floats on the back of trucks, equestrian groups, and marching groups including students from Lillian Larsen and Almond Acres Academy.”

Be sure to stop by the fire station at 1150 Mission between 11th and 12th streets to take family photos with Santa after the parade.
