Update posted Aug. 15, 6:30 p.m.

–Officials are reporting that there has been an overwhelming response from the public to help serve firefighters who are battling the Lake Nacimiento fires, and that additional volunteers are no longer needed. As of Tuesday afternoon, Shav n’ Flav will turn the dietary needs of the firefighters over to CalFire; the organization will be bringing in their own cooks and food.

Those wishing to help are encouraged to reach out to neighbors and friends who may have been displaced by the fire.

To donate food, call Cal Fire Expanded Dispatch at (805) 593-3478.

Local caterer calls for volunteers to help serve thousands of firefighters at event center

–A meal train started at the Paso Robles Event Center is seeking volunteers to help feed firefighters that are battling the fires near Lake Nacimiento.

When the Nacimiento fires broke out, Shav n’ Flav owner, Steven Sullivan, was contacted by Cal State Fire to feed over 600 firefighters for dinner on Saturday evening, over 1000 for Sunday breakfast and dinner and then the same for Monday and as many subsequent days as needed. Putting out a call for volunteers, Sullivan opened the fairground gates to at least 20 volunteers right off the bat. The gates at the Paso Robles Fairgrounds opened to the volunteer help at 3 a.m. and breakfast was to be served to nearly 1000 firefighters by 5 a.m.

Sullivan says he and his brother Eric have been at the fairgrounds for over 24 hours straight feeding the firefighters with no sleep and no rest.

“Feel free to show up and volunteer your time, please help us take care of the firefighters,” Sullivan said on the company FB page. “This is what we do I am very blessed to have soo much good karma and outreach from our community; thank you all from my family to yours; there are homes burning; we need to keep these guys fed until their kitchens arrive tomorrow night. I cannot do it alone; its mayhem down there…I just was informed of 1500 probably even more will be sitting down w logistics here n a bit for a game plan. [Anyone] come in help, prep, clean, get ready for dinner. Please share this we need volunteers any and all would be helpful.”
