Volunteers remove nearly a ton of trash from Salinas Riverbed
– The annual Creeks to Coast Cleanup, organized by the Paso Robles Public Works Stormwater Division, saw over 54 community members gather at Larry Moore Park and Wendy’s on Sept. 21 to collect trash along the Salinas River. Volunteers collected 1,900 pounds of debris, including plastic and bottles, in a local effort to reduce pollution in the area’s waterways.
“We are incredibly grateful for everyone who came out today,” said Kim Porter, stormwater program manager. “Together, we’ve made a tangible difference in our community while raising awareness about the importance of protecting our natural resources.”
Local businesses, schools, and community groups supported the event. Participants helped remove litter while connecting with fellow residents who share a commitment to environmental protection. Mike Campa of Earth Shine, a local environmental organization, emphasized the unity that the event fostered.
“It was inspiring to see so many people come together for a common cause,” said Campa. “It shows that we all care about our environment and want to protect it for future generations.”
The Paso Robles Public Works Stormwater Division is already planning for next year’s cleanup event. The department continues to encourage community members to adopt sustainable practices and engage in local conservation efforts throughout the year.
