Volunteers tutors needed for Literacy for Life Study Center

Literacy for life

Paulina Rodriguez receives an award from center Director Judy Scott.

The Literacy for Life Paso Robles Study Center is in need of volunteer tutors. Literacy for Life is a non-profit volunteer organization, which, in partnership with San Luis Obispo County Libraries, provides free English language tutoring for adults in Paso Robles and throughout San Luis Obispo County.

In San Luis Obispo County, there are an estimated 25,000 functionally illiterate adults. The Paso Robles program makes a positive difference in people’s lives. They are currently in need of additional tutors in order to adequately meet the need in the community.

At the Paso Robles Study Center, learners are provided lessons in both English literacy and English as a Second Language (ESL). The basic literacy lessons are for English speakers who have a limited capacity for reading and writing. The ESL program is designed for those who understand little or no English.

To become a tutor, all one needs is the ability to speak and read English fluently. Training is provided for prospective tutors, and the next classes will be offered on June 3 and June 10, 2017, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in San Luis Obispo.

To register for this session, contact the Literacy for Life office at (805)541-4219. There is a $25 registration fee. For more information, your contact in Paso Robles is Judy Scott (805) 709-5654.
