Water main breaks, floods Paso Robles residences

– On Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018 at approximately 8:37 p.m., the Paso Robles Department of Emergency Services received notification from Police Officers on scene of a possible broken water main with imminent flooding to nearby residences in the area of Jackson Drive and Union Road.

The first arriving firefighters found a large volume of water flowing from Pino Way down the hillside to Jackson Drive. Quick initial action by firefighters working in knee- deep mud and water diverted impinging water from entering a house in the path. Upon clearing a simultaneous emergency incident, the Battalion Chief arrived and added two additional engines to the response. 10 firefighters with the assistance of mutual aid provided by CAL Fire kept water damage to a minimum. Firefighters removed water from a garage and out building while diverting rushing water from numerous other homes. Additional assistance provided by Paso Robles Public Works and Police Departments personnel.

Paso Robles Public Works responded to the scene completing repairs to the broken pipe on Pino Way. Although the cause of the incident is under investigation, initial indications point towards a severed Fire Hydrant from an apparent hit and run motor vehicle accident on Jackson Drive as the leading cause of the damaged water main.
