What are the three different types of CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a natural chemical compound that is found in hemp. It is completely legal to make or purchase, and has almost no side effects. Over the past decade, it has become increasingly popular as a health supplement due to several useful benefits for health conditions or general wellness. It can reduce pain, improve your mental health, and help with conditions like epilepsy, cancer-related symptoms, and more.

If you want to try CBD, there’s some things you need to know. When you are shopping around for a CBD product, you will see the label mention it is either full spectrum, broad spectrum, or isolate. These represent the three different kinds of CBD that you can purchase, and each one has some slight differences that are important to understand. Here is a quick guide to the three different types of CBD.

#1) Full Spectrum CBD

The main difference between full and broad spectrum is the kinds of cannabinoid compounds they contain. Cannabinoid is the name given to the family of chemical compounds that are found in cannabis. CBD is one such compound, as is THC — the psychoactive compound in marijuana that makes you feel high.

Full spectrum CBD will include several of the other compounds that are found in cannabis plants. This includes THC, but for legal reasons the THC will never be more than 0.3% of the total content. The main benefit of full spectrum cbd is the ‘entourage effect’, which describes how taking the naturally occurring cannabinoid compounds together allows them to work better than they do on their own. When you have a full spectrum CBD product, it keeps as much of the cannabinoids together as naturally as possible.

#2) Broad Spectrum CBD

Broad spectrum CBD tends to be more refined. It will have other cannabinoids, but will exclude THC completely. The reason for this is because THC can have negative side effects for certain people, even in smaller trace amounts. You may also want to avoid having any THC in your system due to your job or other restrictions where it could cause you to fail a drug test.

It’s important to note that you should not take a label of either full or broad spectrum on a product label as a universal truth. There is no strict regulation of CBD products, and as a result some manufacturers will mislabel them with no oversight. Make sure you check the whole label carefully, and look for lab certification that shows the exact chemical breakdown of the cannabinoid content.

#3) CBD Isolate

The third type of CBD is called isolate. This is pure, 100% CBD with no other cannabinoid included at all. When the CBD is being extracted from the plant, it is highly refined to remove all other elements so only the CBD remains.

The benefit of CBD isolate is that you can tell with certainty if it is the CBD that is helping you or not. There may be specific medical reasons why you want to determine exactly what is helping your condition when you try a CBD product. Isolate products are not as common as the other two, but you can order CBD isolate wholesale from a manufacturer if needed. It typically comes in the form of solid crystal-like substance, or a powder.

With the above in mind, you can browse any CBD retailer to have a more clear understanding of what you will be getting. If you don’t have any reason to avoid THC at all costs, the most effective product you will find is full spectrum CBD, because of the entourage effect. Broad spectrum will remove THC from the equation, but will still have some of the entourage effect. CBD isolate is more rare and better for special circumstances, or specific kinds of products.
