Wine 4 Paws event raises funds for homeless pets

Businesses donate 10 percent of weekend sales to animal shelter

    – More than 75 wineries and other businesses across San Luis Obispo County will donate 10 percent of their proceeds to support pets in need during Wine 4 Paws, a countywide fundraiser benefiting Woods Humane Society, scheduled for April 25 and 26.

The annual weekend-long event raises funds for dogs and cats at Woods Humane Society through participation by wine, olive oil, dining, and other local businesses. Since its launch in 2009, Wine 4 Paws has raised more than $750,000 for homeless pets.

Participating businesses donate 10 percent of all sales during the weekend and offer special online wine sales and ticketed events. Activities include paint-your-pet parties, wine-paired dinners, vineyard dog walks, and wine-blending seminars. A full list of events and participating businesses is available at Wine4Paws.com.

“Last spring, we saw a historic jump in the number of puppies in need of life-saving care, and we expect a similar trend this year,” said Emily L’Heureux, chief executive officer of Woods Humane Society. “Wine 4 Paws participants will make an incredible impact, allowing us to respond to urgent cases and save the lives of more than 3,000 pets this year. And they can do it all by simply enjoying their favorite wineries!”

Wine 4 Paws organizer Sarah Tomasetti said the event allows participants to support animals through everyday activities. “Whether you’re close by or celebrating from afar, you can make a real difference for struggling puppies and kittens by shopping, sipping or supporting the amazing local Wine 4 Paws businesses on April 25 and 26,” she said.

Woods Humane Society operates shelters at 875 Oklahoma Ave. in San Luis Obispo and 2300 Ramona Road in Atascadero. Both locations are open daily from noon to 5 p.m., with adoption hours from noon to 4 p.m. More information is available at woodshumanesociety.org or by calling (805) 543-9316.
