Winery celebrates 25 years with tasting room renovation
Estate founded in 2001 plans yearlong celebrations and releases
– Calcareous Vineyard is marking 25 years of winemaking in Paso Robles’ Adelaida District with the unveiling of a renovated tasting room and a series of anniversary events planned throughout the year.
Founded in 2001, the estate commemorates the milestone with updates to its tasting room, located about 1,800 feet above sea level. The site offers views of the Westside and expanded hospitality offerings intended to reflect the winery’s long-term vision.
Calcareous Vineyard was founded by proprietor Dana Brown and her late father, Lloyd Messer. The pair shared an interest in Paso Robles and its calcium-rich soils, which influenced the estate’s development. Messer initially planted Bordeaux varieties, and Brown later expanded into Rhône varietals while continuing land stewardship.
“This anniversary isn’t just a look back; it’s a stake in the ground for where we are going,” said Dana Brown, owner of Calcareous Vineyard. “When my father and I first stood atop these 442 acres of solid calcareous rock 25 years ago, we believed in its potential. That belief still guides how we invest in our people, our estate, and our future, to ensure Calcareous remains a benchmark for Paso Robles for the next 25 years.”
Over the past 25 years, the winery has developed alongside the broader Paso Robles region, which has gained recognition as a wine destination known for varied climate and soils. The estate’s vineyards are rooted in calcareous rock, which the winery says contributes to structure and balance in its wines.
Under Brown’s leadership, the winery has maintained a focus on hospitality and wine production. The winery reports it has received multiple 90-point wine scores from critics. Brown now shares knowledge with her daughter, Frannie, who is involved in outreach to new audiences.
Throughout 2026, Calcareous Vineyard plans anniversary programming that includes monthly wine features with new releases and existing selections, dining items paired with featured wines, exclusive dinners and special events, monthly celebrations on the 25th of each month, and online specials.
“Resilience is in the name of the winery itself,” Brown said. “The vines have to struggle through the limestone to create something beautiful. We’ve done the same and will continue to do so for years to come.”
Established in 2001, Calcareous Vineyard is a woman-owned estate located in the Adelaida District of Paso Robles. The winery produces Rhône and Bordeaux varietals and operates vineyards at about 1,800 feet elevation.
