Woman dies in multi-vehicle crash on Highway 101 Saturday

    – A woman was killed Saturday night in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 101 near the base of the Cuesta Grade after she was struck by another vehicle while trying to escape an initial collision, according to a report by the San Luis Obispo Tribune.

The crash began around 9:30 p.m. when a Toyota Camry attempted to turn left onto southbound Highway 101 from Higuera Ranch and collided with a northbound Toyota Highlander, leaving the Camry disabled and unlit in a northbound lane facing the wrong direction.

As an adult female passenger exited the Camry, she was hit by a northbound Hyundai Tucson whose driver did not see the darkened vehicle. She was thrown into a turn lane and pronounced dead at the scene. Five others, including two drivers and three juveniles, were transported to a San Luis Obispo hospital with minor to moderate injuries. The crash remains under investigation, and authorities said drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors.
