Woods Humane Society hosting free pet vaccine clinics
– Woods Humane Society will offer three free pet vaccination clinics in December and January as part of Petco Love’s Vaccinated and Loved initiative.
The clinics will be held at the Woods San Luis Obispo location on Dec. 10 from noon to 4 p.m., and at the Woods North County location on Dec. 12 and Jan. 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The free vaccines are provided through Petco Love’s national vaccination initiative, which is offering an additional one million free pet vaccines to existing animal welfare partners, including Woods Humane Society, for family pets in need.
Parvovirus and distemper in dogs and panleukopenia in cats are preventable through vaccination. An estimated 30% of pet parents do not take their pets to a veterinarian annually for preventative care. Woods Humane Society and Petco Love partnered to address this need by making vaccines free and accessible.
Woods Humane Society aims to vaccinate more than 150 pets through the clinics. Appointments will take place at 2300 Ramona Road in Atascadero on Dec. 12 and Jan. 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and at 875 Oklahoma Avenue in San Luis Obispo on Dec. 10 from noon to 4 p.m.
Pet parents must make an appointment in advance at SpaySLOCounty.com. Pets must be six weeks or older, healthy, and owned. Community outdoor cats do not qualify. Dogs must be on a leash, puppies under four months must be carried, and cats must be in a secure carrier. More information is available at SpaySLOCounty.com.
The free vaccines available through the Petco Love initiative include the DAPPv canine vaccine and the HCP feline vaccine. Rabies vaccines, flea treatments and microchips will also be available during appointments at low cost.
“We are thrilled to help improve access in our community to life-saving pet vaccines through these free pet vaccine clinics, with the help of Petco Love,” said Woods Humane Society CEO Emily L’Heureux. “We hope SLO County pet parents will make an appointment and take advantage of the free and low-cost resources to ensure the health and wellness of our community’s pets.”
“Vaccinations are vital to protecting our beloved pets from life-threatening but preventable diseases,” said Susanne Kogut, President of Petco Love. “Our goal is to make these critical vaccines accessible to as many pet parents as possible, breaking down financial barriers and strengthening the human-animal bond.”
Petco Love’s Vaccinated and Loved initiative reached its goal of distributing three million free pet vaccines for family pets in November 2024. The organization plans to distribute an additional one million free vaccines. The campaign launched in August 2021 and encourages Petco Love animal welfare partners to host free vaccine clinics.
