WSET Certification Program to launch Aug. 27, 28

Monica Marin - WSET Award course

Monica Marin – WSET Award course.

–The Wine House (West Los Angeles) in conjunction with Broken Earth Winery, will launch their initial Wine and Spirits Education Trust (WSET) certification programs in Paso Robles on August 27th and 28th, beginning with the Level 1 “Award in Wines” class.

Monica Marin, who heads the WSET and Wine education programs for The Wine House announced the satellite program for Paso Robles (and San Luis Obispo County) stating: “The mission of The Wine House Paso Robles WSET program is to advance the knowledge and credential of wine professionals and oenophiles in the Paso Robles area by bringing consistent WSET training on site.” This is the first and only WSET approved resident program in Paso Robles.

WSET, headquartered in the UK, has been offering wine certification programs since 1969. Having certified over 72,000 wine professionals and wine lovers worldwide, WSET is honored to be one of the most highly regarded and respected, not for profit wine education organizations, dedicated to building knowledge and expertise among those who love wine, whether it be as a hobby or on a professional basis.

The WSET Level One Award, which is the first to be offered in Paso Robles under this program, is fun and educational, being appropriate for those who want to learn more about wine, and offers a solid foundation for food service and wine industry professionals as well.

In 2019, the Paso Robles program will offer WSET Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 classes at Broken Earth Winery. These certificate programs will delve deeper into different wine regions of the world as well as into wine production. Hands-on classes include more complex tasting analysis of the world’s wines and incorporate a deeper exploration into the world’s wine regions, wine production and viticulture. Students will increase and develop their ability to identify the basic characteristics of wine and wine regions, through WSET’s systematic approach to tasting.

Level 1: An introduction to wine, including wine and food pairing, wine service and tasting analysis. This six-hour course offers a solid basis in wine education.

Level 2: More complex, this 18-hour course includes identifying and rating wines through extensive hands-on tastings, and teaching about wines from various worldwide appellations.

Level 3: Designed for wine professionals and more serious oenophiles, this 35-hour course will hone your analytical and sensory skills, teaching how to identify wines from specific regions, grape varieties and even the producer, through sight, smell and taste, while blind tasting dozens of wines. After successful completion, you will receive an advanced certification.

At the conclusion of each course there is an examination and, upon passing, the student will be issued a certificate and lapel pin from WSET identifying them as having successfully completed the course, putting them in a unique and respected category of wine professionals.

The Wine House’s program began in 2005 and, since then, has established a satellite program in Santa Barbara. With the new satellite program in Paso Robles, in conjunction with Broken Earth Winery, there couldn’t be a more perfect location, in the heart of the Central Coast Wine Country (and San Luis Obispo County) to learn more about wine in a fun setting with other like-minded individuals.

Monica Marin, a Masters of Wine candidate and certified educator of the WSET program will teach the initial courses. Monica has years of teaching experience, successfully guiding wine students across all the different WSET levels.

The more you learn, the more you will enjoy your visits to the Central Coast Wine Country. Check the course descriptions and schedules at: https://www.winehouse.com/product-category/classesevents/?pa_class-type=wset.
