Letter: I’m with school board candidate Adelita Hiteshew
To the editor,
– I am voting for Adelita Hiteshew, Paso Robles School Board Area 6. I am a retired Diabetes Educator Nurse. I have known Adelita Hiteshew for four years. As an educator myself, and a parent of two grown children, I admire Adelita’s dedication and well-thought-out decision-making that is always on display as she participates in advancing progress in each of her encounters.
I am voting for Adelita because of her depth and breadth of experience with, and knowledge of Paso Robles Schools over 20 years. Beyond being a Bearcat graduate with three children currently in the Paso School District, she has volunteered in so many teaching and administrative roles, that one of the principals she worked with commented that she might as well be an employee!
As a past small business owner who practiced financial accountability and a PTA and LCAP volunteer, she knows how to structure and balance budgets. Her service on LCAPs and Site Councils overseeing monies that serve our most vulnerable populations (English learners, low-income, homeless, and foster youth) is especially valuable.
Paso Robles School District Experience: Adelita has served for over a decade on Site Councils, LCAP Committees, and PTA Boards. Her advocacy led to establishing tutoring at lunch at PRHS and providing transportation for low-income students.
Classroom experience: As a former paraeducator for years with kindergartners, Adelita understands classroom dynamics and student needs. She saw how the parents engage with staff and the diverse needs of the students. She learned the importance of differentiated education and early intervention.
PTA president at four schools, currently at Virginia Peterson Elementary: Adelita’s commitment to improving schools by fostering parent and community engagement is evident through her leadership.
Strong ties to our community: As a PRHS grad and parent of 3 children in our district, she has a personal stake in our schools’ success, including advocacy for childcare to improve parents’ ability to attend school meetings. Adelita has been in Cub and Girl Scout leadership as well as sports team coaching.
Focus on special needs children: With a Special Needs child, Adelita is on the “Parents Helping Parents” Board, committed to empowering every child to achieve their fullest potential.
Collaboration and effective communication: Adelita advocates for improved communication including Spanish translation for PTAs and PTOs, and between our District and families, ensuring information is accessible and understandable. Given that 60% of our district’s children are Hispanic, communication with Spanish-speaking parents is crucial.
Adelita’s leadership is in demand due to her significant time invested with parents, children, and teachers, and her advocacy puts children first. She is the only school board candidate with a special needs child, and who has been a foster parent. Her perspective and advocacy is truly unique!
I’m with Adelita.
