Local historical societies have benefited from the monthly spotlight event

– The Mayor of Paso Robles, Steve Martin, culminated a year-long series of historical tours at the Paso Robles Children’s Museum (PRCM) in Paso Robles on Wednesday afternoon Dec.7. PRCM Executive Director Jennifer Smith led the Mayor and others in attendance on a tour of the facility on 13th Street, highlighting the genesis of the projects and pointing out historical amenities at the museum.

“It’s been a great year for local history,” said Mayor Steve Martin.

“We’ve been all over the North County visiting facilities at Camp Roberts, San Miguel, Paso Robles, Templeton, Atascadero, Cambria and Santa Margarita,” said Martin. “I wanted to make sure everyone knows about local history and the many people who work to preserve and present it.”

Beginning in January, the mayor helped lead public tours of local museums including the Camp Roberts Military Museum, Mission San Miguel, the Rios-Caledonia Adobe in San Miguel, the Pioneer Museum in Paso Robles, the Estrella Warbirds Museum at the Paso Robles Airport, the Woodland Auto Display at the Paso Robles Airport, the Paso Robles Historical Society Museum in the Paso Robles City Park, the Paso Robles Children’s Museum, The Templeton Historical Society Museum, the Cambria Historical Society Museum, the Atascadero Historical Society Museum, and the Santa Margarita Historical Walking Tour.

Martin said he hoped the operators of these facilities and other historical sites will continue the schedule of promotional tours saying he would be happy to continue helping to promote them. He also said he would like to bring the state association of historical societies to the area for a history festival in 2017.
