High-speed police pursuit follows hit-and-run

–Early Thursday evening the Atascadero Police Department received a call of a hit and run collision in the 12100 block of Viejo Camino. Additional witnesses reported the suspect vehicle was in the area of Curbaril and El Camino Real. A San Luis Obispo County Probation unit was in the area and Deputy Probation Officers quickly located the vehicle. They began following the vehicle until marked APD units arrived on scene. The vehicle then fled northbound on El Camino Real at a high rate of speed. APD units initiated a pursuit, in which the suspect led them to the area of El Camino Real and San Anselmo before heading back south through the city. The suspect abandoned the vehicle on Bocina Ln, which is in the Bordeaux House Apartment complex. The suspect then fled on foot.

With the assistance of a K-9 Team from the San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Office, the CHP Helicopter and Deputy Probation Officers, the Atascadero Police Department was able to track the suspect to an apartment on Bocina Ln. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

The suspect has been identified as 24-year-old Rafael Aguilar Anguiano.

Pending the completion of the arrest paperwork, he will be transported to the San Luis Obispo County and booked on the charges of; a felony no bail warrant, felony evading, being a felon in possession of a baton, hit and run, being in possession of stolen property, and being in possession of paraphernalia.
